The J-Man Turns 4! A Retrospective

by Tim on September 1, 2009

OK. I imagine that a lot of you will roll your eyes at this, but this is our blog! :-) I picked out a good-sized handful of photos from the J-Man Collection, because I wanted to give in pictures a sense of how much he has grown and how his personality has kept shining through from the very beginning.

You’re around proud parents who like showing off their kids. So buckle in! Massive Picture Alert!

Almost 4 months – the day before his first haircut (I’m a little Hobbit!)

Walking with Daddy; walking on his own is still almost two months away – 21 months (still one of my favorite artsy shots ever)

Coloring with chalk at his new preschool (a huge achievement for him at the time!) – just turned 2

Generally not a big Halloween fan, but still hamming it up for us – 26 months

Pure, unfiltered enjoyment of his all-time favorite sensory activity – 2 1/2 years

jman_4th_retro_13.jpg

Little did we know – but soon would discover – that he almost certainly was reading and had been for a while (hyperlexia, yay!) – 2 1/2 years

jman_4th_retro_14.jpg

The picture that captured the hearts of his first IEP team and the teachers to follow; working at his desk at home – almost 3 years old

jman_4th_retro_15.jpg

Coloring and practicing fencing simultaneously – just before his 3rd birthday

jman_4th_retro_16.jpg

His first day in the Pre-K autism class at the big elementary school, and the day we felt like our little boy had really grown up – age 3

jman_4th_retro_17.jpg

Going through his sidewalk chalk phase, coloring in our entire back deck one nice fall day – a little over age 3

jman_4th_retro_19.jpg

His first real snow – 5″; loved every second of it and showed that he’s impervious to cold (side note – this was the morning of Obama’s Inauguration) – age 3 1/2

jman_4th_retro_20.jpg

Cheesing for the camera with his weighted vest on, a safety cookie in his hand, and using his picture board – about three months ago

jman_4th_retro_22.jpg

Daddy and the J-Man at the beach recently

jman_4th_retro_25.jpg

My dad (“Pepaw”) and the kids in the recliner recently – a rare picture of the kids being together and looking content at the same time

Recently, expressing his opinion of his brother…

And where the story keeps going from here – he’s the big brother now!

We’re so proud of you, J-Man! Keep on shining!
