Elysa, I don't think I've ever had peanut butter on a biscuit! It wouldn't have occurred to me. Peanut butter was reserved (for me) for homemade sourdough bread with homemade strawberry preserves. (Mamaw and Papaw had a strawberry patch in the "kitchen garden.")

But I must have eaten a bazillion biscuits in that house though! They're good the second day with a chunk of homemade butter (they had cows) and a slice of cheese on top of that, then toasted.

Great. Now I'm going to need a biscuit.

Mary, what a great post! Your grandmother sounds like a very special woman with an AWESOME name. So much of your post reminded me of my own childhood and my own grandma. Yes...I ate the pears with the mayo and shredded cheese.:) Like any true Southern girl, I agree absolutely 100% that Duke's is the best. Thanks for taking the time to share this and for the recipe!

p.s. Ever had peanut butter mixed with syrup on your biscuits?

Dakota, if my day had been spent studying pre-zygotic reproductive isolating mechanisms, I'm not sure anything would have made it turn out on a positive note! But, sitting on the side porch with Mamaw? Priceless.

Mary,

I loved this post. It really made my long day of studying the Pre-Zygotic Repoductive Isolating Mechanisms turn out on a positive note. And by the way, those saltine crackers and homemade penut butter were the best snack with the Price is Right or just siting on the side porch during the summer.
