[Update 11/17/08 9:00PM EST - Our order was canceled by Target claiming it was a pricing error. Oh, well. In case you're wondering, yes they can do this.]
[Update 11/17/08 6:15PM EST - We've had hundreds of visits today about this, so here's what we know. We've heard conflicting stories about whether Target will honor this price for those who have already ordered it. Some people have told us they got e-mail canceling their order. Some people have had their order shipped at this price. As of right now, we haven't received an e-mail either way about our order. That's all we know. If we hear more, we'll post it here.]
Get ‘em while you still can!
Britax Marathon car seat on sale for $42.99 with free shipping at Target.com. This seat normally costs about $270. I’m not kidding. We just bought another one.
And to beat all, here’s a 10% off coupon code that works with it. CWOFFERS
It will take 2-6 weeks to arrive though, but for this kind of deal, you can be patient.
We have this same seat already, but we’re buying ahead for kid #2. This seat is amazing. They are built to be bomb-proof and may very well be the best seat you can buy. They’re also built to accommodate bigger and taller kids than most toddler seats, which is great for autistic houdinis who would escape from and aren’t ready for a booster seat yet.
GO NOW! This deal won’t last long at all.

To find this on the Target website, you need to type in “Marathon” on the search box. If you type “Britax”, it doesn’t find them. These things are going like hotcakes right now – I’ve heard that Craigslist has picked it up, so lots of people know. All the moms I know are calling/emailing each other about it. I’m not sure I can sleep, I’m so excited!
The Granite cover is $42. The Cowmooflage is $59.99. Amazing prices!
and… the sale is over. Some people are now saying Target won’t honor the price – others are saying they will. Both sets have actually called and spoken to someone, so who knows?
Dude, this thing has gone completely viral on the Internet. At the rate I’ve seen this spread, Britax would probably need to send all of their inventory for the next year to Target to cover the orders, bankrupting somebody in the process probably. The traffic for our site has spiked ridiculously in the past six hours as somehow we appeared near the top in Google for this thing. Well, not fighting it I suppose.
My guess is that Target may honor the orders for the inventory they do have and cancel the rest. Word was that Target really did want to clear out their inventory to make room for a new Marathon model and perhaps couldn’t pull the plug on the sale fast enough, assuming they meant to sell it that cheaply to begin with.
I would have written this off as a total mistake on their part except I found a really nice $80 Radio Flyer wagon in the store for $17 the other day. Target apparently isn’t averse to crazy sales like this. The marketing person in me wonders if this was an intentional experiment gone awry on Target’s part. Who knows. Sale is over; let’s hope we get a seat!
Yeah… we and MANY MANY others got the cancelation email. Sucks.
