Thilly Thursdays – Joes, Bobs, the Race for the White House, and the Decent Into Political Asininity

JOE, MONTANA, Oct. 15 — After Senator John McCain last night invoked the name of “Joe the Plumber” over 20 times in the final Presidential debate, today Senator Barack Obama’s campaign sought—and quickly found—its own construction-based voter and adopted him as the new symbol of their campaign.

“Bob the Builder is the symbol of hard work and optimism that captures Senator Obama’s vision for America. No matter what obstacles he faces, Bob the Builder perseveres and gets the job done. He represents all that is good about Main Street America, and we are honored to have him as part of our campaign,” said Obama campaign spokesperson Barbara Bentley.

Speaking to a rally in Joe, MT this morning, Bob the Builder fired up a raucous crowd of Obama supporters.

“The American people are struggling. People can’t afford to pay the mortgage on their houses, some of which I built. Our economy is broken, and we need someone to bring change to America and turn things around!” Mr. the Builder declared to the cheering supporters. “It’s time to get busy, such a lot to do! We will build and fix America till it’s good as new. Barack and all of us will work together to get the job done! Yeah!”

With Bob the Builder at his side, Senator Obama closed his speech to the crowd of over 10,000 with, “Just as his customers ask Bob the Builder every day, people all over America ask of us the same timeless question, ‘Can we fix it?’ And we are here to say, ‘Yes. We. Can!’”

[Note: This is not an endorsement, just my commentary on the surreal nature of the campaign this morning and how so much of what the news is talking about today has no bearing or usefulness to my life at all. I also do not know whom Bob the Builder plans to endorse for President.

If you ever needed confirmation that everybody really does get their 15 minutes of fame, welcome to today. I'm waiting to find out that Joe is really some Senator's secret cousin or something.

We will resume our normal autistic programming shortly.]

Oh so many things I could say right now. Must resist. Don’t want to be a maverick. I’ll just ask Tina Fey to post something. ;-)
