So, this getting old stuff? It sucks.
After our super-awesome trip to WV (7 hours each way in the car, PLUS nobody lives less than 40 minutes from each other!), I was pretty tired. Let’s say very tired.
Let’s say… I went to the doctor on Tuesday morning because I couldn’t catch my breath doing simple stuff, and it felt like I couldn’t get air all the way down in my lungs, and it felt like there was a weight on my chest.
Ah… classic signs of heart attack, how I adore thee! Especially since heart disease is RAMPANT on my side of the family, and even though all my bloodwork usually is great (I have LOW cholesterol, people! My normal doctor worried when she saw my HDL last year, then she looked at my LDL, and then the total of 128, and said, “Shit. You’re fine.”), and on and on…
The doctor was cool, and didn’t give me shit about my weight, but was concerned enough about my heart/lungs to send me to the ER. Now, he called around, and he said, “Go to THIS particular ER, because the others don’t have the equipment I want them to use for your tests.” Friends and neighbors, he was WRONG! He sent me to a hospital that is TERRIFIED of pregnant women, because they don’t do L&D anymore. They didn’t know what to do with me, even though I was all, “Um, 8 weeks here people. Not going to be in L&D any time soon.” After 3 normal EKGs, but occasional “throwing PVCs” (premature heartbeats) for 15-20 seconds at a time I ended up getting transported in an AMBULANCE to another hospital, where the paramedics didn’t know where they were going because I was going straight to a room on the cardiac floor, and I got a tour of the hospital (several floors even) on a stretcher.
I was blatantly ignored by the nurses up until some head nurse came in and asked how I felt my nursing had been so far. I mentioned that I knew I was the healthy one on the floor, so could understand a little neglect, but that it really sucked that it took them 6 HOURS to move my IV from my inner elbow to my forearm – which meant they moved it at quarter-to-one in the morning. (They might have moved it elsewhere, but they had managed to collapse my VERY GOOD veins in most other places by this point.) It seems that complaining to the head nurse person will get you good service… Something to remember.
All of this, FOUR EKGs in one day, an echo of my heart, 2 chest x-rays with double shielding of the belly, constant monitoring, and almost 2 full days in the hospital… to say that I was exhausted, and needed to rest for the next couple of days.
You know why? BECAUSE I’M OLD… well that, and pregnant!
It was nice to sleep pretty solidly for 2 days on doctor’s orders though. In my own bed…

Yipes! Glad to hear that at least you got some rest. Hope you are feeling better now.
Good God! What a nightmare . . .milk the bedrest for all it’s worth, sorry for the unfortunate pun. Hoping that all is well and that considerably less drama is in your future. What great news on your pregnancy—fantastic news!
