Celebrating Our Freedoms By…

blowing stuff up!

You can’t get much more American than exploding things in your driveway. OK, well, you obviously can, and it was just weenie fireworks from the store. But we had no idea how he would react to stuff combusting in front of our house, so we skipped the rockets red glare and went for things that popped and crackled and smelled like Beelzebub’s armpits. Yeah, we know it’s daytime too. There was no way he was making it until dark.

To our joy, he really liked them. We even got “more” and the sign for “more” out of him! Yay!

Next year, more firepower!!

Anyway, enjoy the cute video. (It’s short.) And thanks to Uncle Jason for filming while I was trying not to catch myself on fire!

Oh, I love it! He’s so excited and happy! Yay! Happy 4th of July!

My son was running and jumping madly all day in anticipation. He *loves* fireworks.

@Mary - We figured it would be all or nothing with J-Man - either he’d be scared to tears or love them. We’re so glad it’s the latter! I remember at his first birthday that he cried when we (we = about 35 people…) sang to him because of all the noise and stuff. In noisy places, he tends to wander off by himself. Thankfully, this particular recipe worked, and to me shows things are improving.

@magicdrgn - Yeah, sometimes I wonder whether I had much of anything to do with him coming into this world. :-) Some people have said that he looks like her when he’s happy and like me when he’s looking ‘thoughtful’ or studying something really intently. Most of the time, I think he looks like her regardless. It’s like someone photocopied her face, which in my opinion is a perfectly great thing! :-) Unfortunately, I think he got my Dumbo ears…
