We were pretty desperate. His hair was down near his eyebrows and we just couldn't face another trip to the haircut place. They are pretty much the best place in town (town = 400,000 people) for kids and it took five people and his favorite video to keep him below nuclear detonation long enough to cut his hair. We had the same person each time and she did a great job, like cutting hair under gunfire. I imagine she dreaded us coming, though.

We pulled out the clippers (the same ones Mary buzzes my hair with), turned them on (they are loud), and let him get used to them over several nights before trying anything for real. He likes vibration (electric toothbrushes helped us with a lot of stuff) pretty well, so we even let him hold the clippers while they were on. Just holding the handle on his arm calmed him down some when he got upset.

Mary put him in his high chair with a mat under it in the living room and put on one of his favorite shows. This helped a lot. He likes the feeling of being surrounded (high chair, car seat, bucket swing, etc.) - deep pressure and all that good sensory stuff. So that helped too.

Compared to the mop he had, his hair is REALLY short now, but it looks good. It's a little funky around the ears, but this was a huge success. It's so short we may not have to try this again for a while!

Go Mary!!

That's amazing. We still have to chop just a little off E's hair here and there, when he's distracted. And he doesn't stay distracted for long!
